Making Downtown Accessible for All

The City of Mountain View is moving forward with the SB-1 Streets Project – Castro Street Curb Ramps Project as part of its commitment to long-term sustainability, safe mobility, and an inclusive Downtown that is accessible for everyone.

This project will upgrade non-compliant curb ramps and median pathways along Castro Street—from Fairmont Avenue to California Street—to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. These improvements will make it easier and safer for all community members, including people using wheelchairs, strollers, and bicycles, to navigate Downtown.

In addition, the crosswalks will be upgraded for greater visibility, improving safety along this heavily traveled corridor that connects the Caltrain and VTA stations, major roadways like Central Expressway and El Camino Real, and the Downtown pedestrian mall.

Construction will be carefully coordinated to minimize disruption, and businesses will remain open throughout the project. The City encourages the community to continue visiting and supporting Downtown businesses during this period.
