Following the adoption of the Downtown Entertainment Zone (EZ) Pilot Program Ordinance on April 28, 2026, the City of Mountain View is launching an 18-month pilot program to bring more vibrancy and social connection to our historic Castro Street.

The Downtown EZ allows patrons to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating local businesses and enjoy them while walking through designated public spaces during special City-organized events.

July 18-19: Weekend of Music and Watch Parties

Summer of Soccer Secondary Logo

The City is planning the first Downtown EZ Activation as part of the Summer of Soccer festivities surrounding the global soccer games with the goal of creating an engaging, “festival-like” experience for visitors. Celebrate the tournament’s finale with a weekend of festivities in Downtown:

  • Dates & Hours:
    • Saturday, July 18, 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 6:00 p.m.
    • Sunday, July 19, 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Location: 200 and 300 Blocks of Castro Street (between Villa and California Streets)

Business Participation

The EZ is designed to support our local economy by ensuring only established, licensed businesses within the zone can participate. 

How to Participate

Participation is entirely voluntary, but action is required if businesses wish to opt-in. The following steps must be completed the following steps to participate in the upcoming activation:

  1. Location: Must be a brick-and-mortar business within the activated EZ boundary
  2. Licensing: Must possess an active on-sale ABC license. 
  3. Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Notification: Businesses must annually submit an Entertainment Zone Participation Notification form to ABC. 
  4. City Notification: Must notify the City of your participation prior to each event activation. Contact econ.dev@mountainview.gov with questions. 
  5. Operations: Follow all rules in the Downtown EZ Operations Manual, including age verification, using approved containers and official event wristbands, and posting required signage. Ensure managers and staff on-site during EZ activations have reviewed the Operations Manual.
