Officially starting in Winter of 2019 and then restarted in 2022, the Visual Arts Committee (VAC) has been discussing different elements and aspects of a Public Art Strategy beginning with a vision statement and various policy considerations. The development of Mountain View’s Public Art Strategy (Public Art Strategy) looks to expand opportunities for public art throughout the community by identifying specific strategies and tactics to make art more accessible and available within Mountain View.
Early public outreach in 2019 and the use of the VAC's monthly meetings, the Committee has drafted the following elements of a Public Art Strategy.
Draft Vision Statement
The creation of diverse public art enriches Mountain View’s innovative and creative culture, enhances the vibrancy of our diverse community, and transforms Mountain View into an art destination
Draft Public Art Goals

- Foster placemaking and identity to support economic development and enhance Mountain View’s livability
Draft Strategies
- Develop, augment, and refine city policies and procedures to better align and encourage art appreciation and place keeping.
- Expand and enhance public art in Mountain View to make it more prevalent, diverse, relevant and enriching
- Broaden the scope of public art in Mountain View by expanding outreach, encouraging public participation, and fostering collaboration.
The VAC is currently refining the initiatives and tactics associated with each strategy. The committee welcomes your feedback on the vision, goals and strategies.
